The London-based management level of an international agency network.

the scenario

This agency, composed of several independent and reputable agencies, faced a common challenge across its groups: inconsistent delivery and low employee engagement scores at the junior level, coupled with higher-than-industry-average staff turnover. Collaborating closely with the HRD and her team, we identified a root cause—the lack of consistent management capability due to inadequate across-the-board management training.

the intervention

Our initial step involved providing mentors for experienced managers by training key personnel to serve as mentors, and setting up a mentoring program.

Subsequently we designed a comprehensive management skills development programme that included understanding the core tenets of brilliant people management, including self-reflection, skill analysis, understanding the business vision, mission strategy and plans and translating them down to staff and key coaching skills.ot cause—the lack of consistent management capability due to inadequate across-the-board management training.

A bespoke modular programme consisting of three, one-day workshops, delivered in half-day sessions for ease of scheduling for several cohorts of people was delivered.

This tailor-made programme is built on our unique Less Friction, More FlowSM methodology, a proven organisational experience approach that uses tried and tested strategies to oil cogs, solve frictions, and help get people into flow.

Feedback from the delegates was extremely positive, with managers now confident in knowing how to understand, coach and develop their team members. From a business perspective, the ensuing staff engagement reported large uplifts in engagement scores especially around around expectations, career and skill development, being connected to the company’s mission, values and strategy and a feeling of being proud to work for both the agency and holding company.
